What to do with 3 Hours in NYC
Why not spend three hours in NYC? I was determined this summer, while on a trip to upstate NY, to spend a little time in NYC. I found a good deal on a flight into JFK (Alaska Air!), and since we were headed upstate, picked up a rental car and drove across the Bronx and into Manhattan. Fortunately it was 6:30am on Saturday morning, so it was about as easy as it ever could be. I was able to locate a parking garage near the north end of The High Line, and we left our rental car, hoping it would still be there when we returned, and headed up the stairs to the elevated park.
It was a gorgeous morning and 7:30 on Saturday is an excellent time to walk The High Line. There were a few joggers and walkers out, but it was before the tourist crowds arrived.
There are a number of art installations along the way.
And lots of pretty flowers. And snackbars that would be set up later in the day.
We reached the end in about an hour, just strolling and taking our time, and then we continued walking over the Dominique Ansel Bakery, so that I could finally try the famous cronut.
After some research, I had discovered that one could pre-order 6 cronuts, 2 weeks in advance, and figured it was probably worth it, instead of having to line up early.
And so we picked up our 6 cronuts, and sat in the pleasant courtyard to eat them. The July flavor was lemon zest sugar with blueberry jam and coconut ganache. The complex flavors all went together very well.
And then we hopped onto the subway back to the parking garage, picked up the car and headed out of the city.
