Toro Bravo
Toro Bravo, one of Portland’s most popular restaurants, which can have a nearly 2 hour wait, just 15 minutes after opening, is still worth the trouble to line up before they open the doors to get a table and enjoy all the fabulous tapas.
This time, after many visits, we decided to give the Tasting Menu a try.
There are five different “kisses” on the menu, here are three of them, Toro Kiss - bacon wrapped date and warm honey, Spanish Kiss - spherical olive, and Northwest Kiss - potato cream, smoked trout, and tobiko. I think my favorite of these was the NW Kiss, the potato cream was rich and creamy and potatoey and I love smoked trout.
Next up, Toro Bravo salad with Radicchio. I’ve even made this one at home before, but it’s a great salad, and not bitter at all.
From the charcuterie menu - duck pate, really rich and yummy.
Ham croquetas - these were okay, not as creamy as others that I have had.
A selection of vegetables, beets, the spiciest padron peppers ever, and corn.
This scallop with romesco and fennel was one of my favorites of the night. The romesco is always really great and the scallop was perfect with the crunch fennel.
And last, but not least, beef with olive and potatoes.
There wasn’t even dessert, but that didn’t bother me at the end of this tasting menu. It was very generous and I was so full, but it was fun to try dishes I probably wouldn’t have ordered otherwise.
