My favorite places in the world - Na Pali Coast Kauai
In 2006, we were invited to a wedding in Kauai, and of course, just had to go. I had never been to Hawaii before, since it was a long way from the east coast. But really, it's quite easy to get to from the west coast. The north coast of Kauai, is known as the Na Pali Coast, and there is some really gorgeous hiking in the area. The Kalalau trail leaves from the end of the road at Ke'e Beach. I have hiked the first two miles to Hanakapi'ai twice, but have never gone any further on the trail. (Maybe next time...) Even the first two miles are pretty rugged and muddy.
From the top, in Koke'e State Park, we stayed in a rustic, but well located cabin and spent the entire day hiking. Starting with the Nu'alolo trail, connecting to the Nu'alolo Cliff Trail, and continuing on the Awa'awapuhi to finish the almost loop (there was a little bit on the road to get back to the cabin). This trail has fabulous views, and was a great way to see part of the Na Pali coast without getting on a helicopter or boat.
