Where to eat in Chattnooga, TN

I spent two weeks in Chattanooga in October 2020. It’s a quirky city, that might be on the brink of a great food scene, but for me, it wasn’t quite there yet. I had some meals that I really enjoyed and some that were just so-so.

My favorite dinner was at Main Street Meats. I enjoyed their version of the French 75 cocktail, along with a butter lettuce salad and trout with mashed potatoes and bok choy.

For great fried chicken from a local small chain, head to Champy’s.

Niedlov’s Bakery has a really excellent morning bun.

Julie Darling Donuts is a small donut shop and they had my favorite flavor, the chocolate cake donut.

Chattanooga does have some excellent kombucha options. I found Muse & Metta at a local restaurant and also Blue Indian Kombucha at Main Street Farmer’s Market, which has seasonal flavors on tap.

Flying Squirrel was quirky and interesting, but not a satisfying as I wanted it to be and it was heavily seasoned. We ate chicken karaage, oyster mushroom salad, and fried brussels sprouts.

Community Pie is centrally located and is passable for pizza. They have Neopolitan, New York, and Detroit style pizzas.

There are several locations of Clumpies, if you are in the mood for ice cream. Although for me, it was disappointing. They have lots of tempting flavors, but it was not as creamy as I was hoping for. I tried the seasonal options of oatmeal apple butter and pumpkin cheesecake and found them lacking in flavor.

Maple Street Biscuit is a chain spread throughout the south. It was a perfectly fine biscuit, but I didn’t love it.

Bantam & Biddy is a good option for lunch right in downtown. I really enjoyed their salad with the addition of fried chicken tenders, however, I enjoyed slightly less, the roast chicken stew.
