Adventures in the NW corner of Georgia
Following the scenic route from Atlanta to Chattanooga, there are a few interesting places to stop. First we stopped at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield, where there is a small museum and lots of hiking. However, the rain from the remnants of the hurricane kept us from exploring too far and we kept going.
The next stop was Etowah Indian Mounds, which is a state historic site with some pretty cool mounds. There’s a small museum displaying some of the artifacts that have been found in the mounds. And then you go out and climb up the mounds to the top.
Last for the day was Cloudland Canyon State Park, not far from Lookout Mountain. It’s a beautiful canyon with some hiking and camping and all the things you might find at a state park. It was a little misty with just a touch of fall color on this day in early October. There are a couple waterfalls, and to get there, the trail is mostly an extensive staircase down into the canyon
