Seattle Eats - Fall 2019
I have not yet grown weary of eating in Seattle. Here are a few finds from a recent October weekend.
It was obvious that Biscuit Bitch is a popular place, when I saw the line out the door Saturday morning at the Pioneer Square location. There are four locations around Seattle. Fortunately the line moved pretty quickly, eventually we found a seat at the large communal table that was the majority of the seating in the restaurant. And not too long after that, the food arrived.
The best part about the menu, is that you can order a side of gravy, half or full portion. I thought this was great, because I often want gravy, but I rarely ONLY want gravy. I ordered the Bitchwich, a sandwich with egg, cheddar, and bacon. Unfortunately, I didn’t love the biscuit, it tasted overly baking powdery to me, but it made a fine sandwich and was also good dipped in gravy.
While waiting to go into the Amazon Spheres, we wandered into Mamnoon Street, just for a snack… Which turned out to be excellent and substantial. After hummus, fries, and a za’atar wrap, we were revived and ready to go in for our tour of the Spheres.
And after the show we were in Seattle to see, I finally got myself to Pie Bar, a late night pie shop in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. I noticed it a couple trips ago and had wanted to go try it out. It’s a sliver of a place, where you basically can’t move once you sit down, but we had a nice view out the window. I selected the chocolate pietini to drink and a slice of apple pie, which automatically comes a la mode. Both were very enjoyable, but maybe didn’t go together perfectly. There’s also a take out window!
The next morning, ramen seemed like a good option for brunch, there are many to choose from, but after a little research, we decided on Ooink Ramen. They make their own noodles in the front of the restaurant and use them in a couple more traditional pork ramens (shio and shoyu) and some non-traditional spicy ramens. My bowl of Shio ramen was a very satisfying bowl of noodles.
And to finish the weekend, donuts at General Porpoise. They only make filled donuts and they rotate the flavors seasonally. That morning, we had the option of vanilla custard, chocolate marshmallow, and lemon curd. We selected lemon and vanilla, and sat in the light and bright upstairs area, enjoying our donuts and drinking our tea and coffee.
