An afternoon of grazing in Seattle
I’ve spent a fair amount of time in Seattle and explored the city quite a bit on various trips. On a recent overnight trip to see a musical at The Paramount Theater, we didn’t really have a specific agenda. So we spent the afternoon wandering around Pike Place Market and eating some tasty snacks.
Salumi is conveniently located near the train station, and a place I’ve had on my list for a long time. Since I originally heard about it, the ownership has changed hands, but the quality has remained. The menu is full of meaty hot and cold sandwiches. We ordered the chopped salad and meatball sandwich. The salad was good and hearty with chunks of salami. And the meatballs were truly fabulous, moist and flavorful.
It’s a difficult feat to walk by an asian dumpling place, without stopping. So when we wandered by Country Dough, we had to stop for some pork dumplings. They were passable, although not exceptional.
Last stop for the afternoon, Pike Brewing Company for beer and cider.
The next morning, before we had to catch our train back to Portland, we walked to the North Capitol Hill neighborhood to The Wandering Goose, for a biscuit breakfast. If you are in a hurry, this is probably not the place to go, there was a long line the morning we were there, and it possibly was a bit slower than normal, due to only one chef working in the kitchen, but I expect it’s probably like that most weekends. But we didn’t have anywhere else to be, so we waited. We ordered the Sawmill (fried chicken and gravy) and the Sweet Blonde (country ham and egg) biscuit sandwiches. There is also a luscious pastry case full of gigantic cakes, if for any reason you are still hungry at the end of your meal. Everything we ate was tasty and of course, filling.
