Welcome!

These are my adventures with food and travel.  Enjoy!

Han Oak

Han Oak

I've been hearing about Han Oak for awhile (they have gotten a lot of good press recently...) and finally got around to making a reservation the other night.  They are only open a couple nights a week, Friday and Saturday are prix fixe by reservation only and Sunday and Monday are noodle/dumpling nights and are walk-in only.

Han Oak is located behind a nondescript red door with only a street number on NE 24th Ave.

The meal started with banchan:  asparagus with korean hollandaise, cabbage slaw (I had to skip the kimchi because of my shrimp allergy), fried sweet potatoes, and broccoli raab.

The next course was egg drop chicken broth with hand cut noodles.  The noodles were excellent.

We ordered the pork and chive dumplings from the a la carte menu, because, how can you resist dumplings?  I can't anyway...  I liked them, I thought the filling was very flavorful.

Next up, ssam plates.  The first ssam was pork belly with daikon and a rice wrapper and the other was steak with a creamy slaw, ssamjang and lettuce to wrap it all up.  The creamy slaw with the ssamjang and steak worked really well together.

And for dessert, really refreshing, flavorful, and simple, strawberries with a sake rhubarb granita.
