Welcome!

These are my adventures with food and travel.  Enjoy!

Screen Door

Screen Door

Screen Door may have the most notorious brunch line in Portland.  I drove by one Saturday morning, and there was a long line around the corner.  I have enjoyed dinner at Screen Door several times, but I have never braved the weekend brunch line.  So I was thrilled when they announced, a little over a year ago, that they would be open every day for breakfast and lunch.

Probably the most quintessential item on Screen Door's menu is the fried chicken and waffles. I'd never actually eaten fried chicken and waffles together, so I thought it would be a good place to start.  One good thing about going on a weekday, is that you can pick how many pieces of chicken you want.  On the weekend, you automatically get 3 pieces of chicken, which is A LOT of food.  One was plenty.  I thought the sweet potato waffles were fabulous, crispy and flavorful.  The chicken was okay, boneless with a spiced crust.  But I'm not sure that I understand the idea of chicken and waffles together any better now that I've eaten it.  I probably wouldn't get it again, unless I could get the waffles alone.  However, there are plenty of other interesting items on the menu, including a great section called "build a breakfast".
