Kayo's Ramen Bar
I'm a big fan of ramen and my current favorite places in Portland are Marukin and Kizuki. However, I'm always looking for the next best thing, so I tried out Kayo's Ramen Bar on N. Williams. I had the Tan Tan Ramen, which is described as combination of Sichuan DanDan Mian and Tawainese Ma Jiang Mian. I'm not really familiar with either of these styles, but I thought this choice sounded interesting. It's offered in mild, medium, hot, or super hot. I went for the mild, because I'm not a huge fan of spice. I also added an egg, because a bowl of ramen is always better with an egg. The bowl of noodles was massive. I definitely tasted the sesame that came from the Ma Jiang Mian. Despite the flecks of red oil, there was no spice whatsoever, it was mlld. The noodles were appropriately chewy and overall it was a good bowl of noodles.
