Drinking in Bruges, Belgium
De Garre Pub in Bruges, Belgium is not easy to find. After wandering back and forth a couple times, we finally found it down an unmarked alley. It is very close to the central square, so you wouldn't think it would be that tough, but we heard other people mentioning their difficulties also. They make and serve their own De Garre Belgian Ale along with many other Belgian beers. We tried out Bush, De Garre, and Rochefort 10. All most enjoyable and served with cubes of cheese. Which was good, because these beers are strong!
The next day, after walking part of the perimeter of Bruges to see the windmills, we stopped at Cafe Vlissinghe, the oldest pub in Bruges. We had some soup (carrot and onion) and more beer, the Vlissinghe house beer, and Brugse Zot Blonde. It was a nice lunch stop, especially on a chilly day.
Our last morning in Bruges, on recommendation from our hostel, we stopped at Li O Lait for breakfast. There I finally got my hands on some Belgian hot chocolate. They used whole chocolate pieces and melted them in the milk and it was some of the best hot chocolate I've had. And it was served with cookies as a bonus.
