Dottir
The Kex Hotel opened in NE Portland in 2019 and is an outpost of the Kex Hostel in Reykjavik, Iceland.
After being open only a short while, they closed in March 2019 and then recently reopened their restaurant at the beginning of August. The hotel plans to reopen in 2021 after making some changes to the rooms which originally had dorm beds.
Dottir currently has options for both indoor and outdoor dining and you can select your choice when making a reservation. The outdoor dining is in the pleasant, narrow interior courtyard with four well separated tables.
On that hot summer evening, an Aperol Spritz seemed like a good start.
For dinner, they have a fixed 3 course meal, but there are also some snack options, so we started with the crispy onion rings with a very tasty dill ranch dip.
We are at peak tomato season, so tomatoes were a great choice for the first course of roasted tomatoes with corn, panko, and whipped skyr. It reminded me a bit of gazpacho.
The main course was pork shoulder with a cherry and black garlic sauce along with crispy shallots and melted veggies with dill. And it was served with some thick grilled flatbread with a dill pickle relish.
For dessert, a parfait of peaches, hazelnuts, vanilla custard and marionberry sorbet.
