National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center - Baker City, OR

The National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center at Flagstaff Hill, near Baker City, OR is an interesting museum dedicated to the Oregon Trail run by the Bureau of Land Management.

From Flagstaff Hill the emigrants got their first view of the Blue Mountains in the distance.

As expected, since the journey was long and not easy, the museum covers all the difficulties experienced on the trail.

But even so, many people looking for new opportunities took the journey anyway.

Outside the museum, there’s a hiking trail to a panorama viewpoint and it loops around to the wagon ruts that are preserved at the bottom of the hill, if you are looking for a longer hike. There’s also an outdoor display about mining.

Or you can drive to the bottom of the hill for easy access to the ruts and walk along them.
