6 Days in London - Day 3 The British Museum
Confirmed! The British Museum is truly massive! It was a rainy day, so it was a perfect day to spend in a big museum. Setting aside the issues surrounding the collection of archeological pieces from sites all over the world, it is absolutely amazing to see them all in one building.
The bulk of the museum focuses on Greece, Egypt and the Middle East. However, there is a small area dedicated to North America and Mexico.
Some highlights for me, were the Rosetta Stone, the Egyptian Sarcophogi, the carvings from Ninevah.
Mid-afternoon we were museumed-out, and stopped for a snack at a Tavern near The British Museum. Pretty touristy and not stellar food.
From there we walked into Central London, stopping at the Piccadilly Arcade for a quick stroll through.
And then wandered through Fortnum and Mason, where I was very entertained to find a MacKenzie-Childs collection, which is made just a couple miles from where I grew up in New York State.
Italian for dinner at The River Cafe in Hammersmith. Our fanciest dinner of the trip - grilled squid to startm then spaghetti bottarga with red mullet and sea bass with swiss chard for the main course. And panna cotta with rhubarb for dessert.
