The Whale Wins - Seattle

The Whale Wins - Seattle

The Whale Wins, is one of Renee Erickson's many Seattle restaurants.  This one is in the Fremont neighborhood, just a block from the water.  It is light and airy and has a really fabulous patio.

This crunchy salad with raw pak choi, sesame and coconut, was unusual, since I don't often see raw pak choi.

I don't think I've ever had a fish pate, so the halibut pate was very intriguing and it was really yummy, kind of hummus-like.  Served with pickled onions, celery and crispy bread.

How do you make a pork chop pretty?  Cover it in greens in this case.  It's true that pork chops aren't always the most attractive, you can see it barely peeking out, but it was a much prettier plate with the greens, cherries, and carrot puree.  AND it was really fabulous, super tender pork with the bitter greens and sour cherries and smokey carrot puree making for some interesting and different combinations.

For dessert, Eton Mess with strawberries.  I couldn't pass up the chance for one more round of strawberries, they were really fabulous this year.  Eton mess is broken meringue with whipped cream, and is pretty tasty with juicy strawberries.
