Machrie Moor Stone Circle
One of the things I was most excited to see in Scotland was a stone circle. After I determined the biggest, most intact stone circles were nowhere near our route, I decided Machrie Moor on Arran Isle was the one.
One the west side of Arran, the trail starts from a small carpark, and follows a muddy, slightly rolling track through a sheep field. I was glad I had my boots for this one.
After a short walk, there are several stone groupings along the path with the tallest at the end. The first grouping, Fingal's Cauldron is multiple rings of stone set inside each other.
The stones were pretty cool, I didn't really know what to expect, but that last group of three tall ones was particularly interesting, because they are so tall.
And the view was great too.
