Taughannock Falls SP and the Finger Lakes Cider House
Taughannock Falls is the highest single drop waterfall east of the Rockies. Located in Ulysses, NY on the west side of Cayuga Lake, it's a short drive from Ithaca. There's an easy gorge trail that's open all year and a slightly more strenuous rim trail that is only open during the summer. I have walked the gorge trail at Taughannock Falls State Park many times and in every season. It's a favorite Christmas Day walk and on a hot day in the summer, it's fun to wade in the water and cool off. The trail is an easy 1 1/2-ish mile round trip walk and it's mostly on a flat wide trail. And if you really don't want to walk there's an overlook with a great view.
Most recently, I visited in November for a post-Thanksgiving walk on a pleasant late-fall day.
For a post-walk refreshment, the Fingerlakes Cider House at Good Life Farm, is just a 15 minute drive north in Interlaken. If you like cider, this is a great place to go. They feature 4 different cideries under one roof and you can get 5 tastes for $5. And if you're hungry, they do have a small food menu.
