Feast Portland 2016 - Volunteering
I have heard about Feast Portland since it commenced five years ago and this year, I decided to volunteer for it, so that I could experience some of the events, without paying the hefty ticket price.
I volunteered at Sandwich Invitational, Night Market, and Brunch Village and I didn't know what to expect going into it. For Sandwich Invitational, I was part of the Event Glue Team, which has an area to take care of. This included getting chefs at their stations anything they needed, refilling water and ice, picking up trash, and directing guests. In addition to that, we were able to wander around and look at each station before guests arrived and had some time to sample the food during the event. I spent the first part of the evening helping out with wrist-banding and then moved over to my station. When I had my chance to sample some of the food, I selected all the options that didn't have a line. In the end, I think I sampled about half of the sandwiches, but then I couldn't remember everything that I had eaten.
For Night Market, I was on the Friendly Faces team and I spent the whole evening at the entrance, wrist banding and helping out with glassware return. This was the busiest event and the lines were very long, so there was some food I didn't even see. Despite that, I was still able to sample quite a few things and I decided to take pictures of everything, so that I could remember it.
Brunch Village was on Sunday morning and was much more relaxed. I was back on the Event Glue team and spent most of the morning clearing away glasses and plates as people moved around.
These were some of my favorite bites.
