Charleston to St. Augustine in One Week - The Itinerary
Why I picked this destination:
When it was clear that international travel is not happening for awhile, or at least in the fairly effortless way of the past, I made a list of 10 domestic destinations that were top of my mind. They included places I wanted to go back to along with some new destinations.
Charleston and Savannah were high on that list and have been in the back of my mind for a long time as two cities I would like to explore. Between the history, the fabulous dining opportunities, and all the National Parks sites scattered along the coast, it seemed like a great way to spend a week.
I planned a week off in early March back in December, determined that I would take some sort of vacation. I didn’t actually pick the destination until sometime in January. Early March seemed like a good time to visit Charleston and Savannah and St. Augustine isn’t that much further so, I added that to the end of the week and got started planning the itinerary.
Then I started researching activities in all the cities and decided that there were more activities I wanted to do in Charleston, so I decided on 3 nights there, 2 nights in Savannah, 1 night in St. Augustine, along with a day on Cumberland Island. I also decided to fly in and out of Atlanta, instead of buying a multi-city plane ticket.
And here’s what we did:
Day 1 fly in to Atlanta night before and drive to and sleep in Augusta, GA; drive from to Charleston in the AM and afternoon in Charleston - See: McLeod Plantation; Eat at FIG (reservation made well in advance)
Day 2 Charleston - See: Charles Pinckney NHS, Fort Sumter, Fort Moultrie
Day 3 Charleston - See: Middleton Place, Old Slave Mart Museum, downtown Charleston
Day 4 drive Charleston to Savannah - See: Angel Oak, Beaufort; Eat at The Olde Pink House
Day 5 Savannah - See: Bonaventure Cemetery, Fort Pulaski NM, Wormsloe; Eat at The Grey
Day 6 St. Simon’s and Jekyll Islands and sleep St. Mary’s
Day 7 Cumberland Island and sleep in St. Augustine; Eat at The Floridian
Day 8 St. Augustine - See: Castillo de San Marcos
Day 9 drive back to Atlanta and fly home
