Just a quick stop in Monaco
I couldn’t resist stopping in Monaco, since we went right by on the way from Lake Como to Nice. However, I found it to be a strange, confusing place. We got lost and had to turn around or backtrack a number of times. We only stayed for a couple hours, which is time enough to wander around and see the city, since it is not large, but I think it would be worth a whole day
The train station is underground, connected by tunnels to the city, and for awhile we were convinced we’d never escape the tunnels and find the city.
The old town is high on a hill overlooking the Mediterranean. The sea was absolutely sparkling that day.
There’s a palace.
And some narrow streets, which seemed to be mostly for tourists.
One of the reasons it was difficult to walk around, was the impending Formula One Grand Prix race and all the fences that were set up.
After several wrong turns, we finally located the casino, stopped to gawk for a second, and then turned around and went back to the train station and continued onward.
