Planning a trip to London

Planning a trip to London

London for 6 days! There were so many things to consider. I rarely stay anywhere for 6 days…usually no more than 2-3 nights in one place as I like to the make the most of a trip and keep moving. And there were so many things to consider - where to stay, what to do, and what to eat.

What to do - so many options! I had a really hard time with this one, fortunately with six days we had lots of time, but still not enough to see everything. I spent a lot of time familiarizing myself with the map of the city. And I listed out my priorities and grouped them by area. Also, I ended up purchasing the 6 day London Pass with the oyster card, and in the end, I don’t know if we saved money, but it was super handy not to have to buy tickets for each attraction in advance or at each location and to have the oyster card in advance and ready to go. In the end it was worth it just for the convenience.

Where to stay - there was something really nice about the idea of staying in one place for a whole week, not having to figure out how to get to and find another hotel every couple days and lug my bag around. There are hotels all over the city, BUT, location IS important. We settled on the hub by Premier Inn London Westminster Abbey, it was budget friendly, with simple rooms. The location was great, just a couple blocks from the tube station and within easy walking distance of Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace and Big Ben.

Where to eat - also, so many options! I made a couple of reservations (tea and one nice dinner), but decided to keep it a bit more up in the air, and generally that worked out okay, but it wasn’t high tourist season either. I did have a list of possible restaurants and ideas where I wanted to eat in each area, so I was ready when we were hungry.

Keep reading my next post to see what I actually did…
