Yummy things I ate in Scotland

Yummy things I ate in Scotland

I wasn't quite in Scotland yet, when I encountered the pudding selection on our Virgin Atlantic flight from Seattle to London.  It doesn't really get much better than a jar of red velvet cake and icing, especially when 30,000 feet up in the air.

The Tobermory Bakery on the Isle of Mull was the only bakery I ended up going to and I could have eaten the entire case, but in the end I settled on a scone and some shortbread to go.  I'm regretting that I didn't also order the Victoria Sponge.

At the Old Library Lodge in Arisaig, I was excited to finally find some vegetables for dinner,  and then I topped it off with Sticky Toffee Pudding for dessert.

Meat pie!  In pretty much the middle of nowhere on the Isle of Skye, the Skye Pie Cafe showed up at the exact right moment when we were starving for lunch.  It's exceedingly quaint and also pretty tasty with lots of great pie options.  After some debate between the veggie pie (curried lentil) and chicken and mushroom, I went with the chicken.

I can't make it very far into the day without breakfast and I'm happy when I travel in cool northern countries, where the breakfast is hardy.  The porridge was not very photogenic, but I had possibly some of the best bowls of oatmeal ever, along with these beautifully orange soft scrambled eggs with Scottish smoked salmon.

After many meals of fish and limited vegetables, Maharaja in Stirling was a real flavor explosion.  We stumbled into this curry shop, after walking down the hill from the castle into the main town area.  We had a hard time deciding, but finally selected chicken curry, naan, saag paneer, and daal.

And the seafood..., there was so much of it.  Which makes sense, since we were never far from the water.  We could have eaten fish and chips every night, and did several nights, some better than others, some crisp and some a bit greasy, and I have to say most needed a little salt.  There was also this plate of langoustines that I couldn't eat, but they looked amazing.  But I did get to eat the scallops and Cullen Skink which is basically a haddock chowder.
